Brilliant Minds was created in May 2010 and opened its doors on August 23, 2010. We are the first after-school program in Tallahassee to offer several programs without additional cost to students while enrolled in the after-school program or any of its seasonal camps.
We wanted to provide access to a top-notch experience in the Arts and Education without the high cost. A quality after-school program, music school, and tutoring services were becoming less and less accessible — we wanted to change that.
Brilliant Minds realizes that children — all children — thrive when provided an opportunity. Therefore, it is our mission to provide the opportunity to equip our Brilliant Kids with the tools to engage them, exposing them to a myriad of subjects to provide a constant challenge in a fun and engaging manner.
Our central focus/entree is academics… And around that we provide the garnish: Sewing, Carpentry, Spanish, Mandarin Chinese, Tennis, Volleyball, Public Speaking, Music Lessons, Culinary Arts, and more!
We are passionate about the life success of each of our Brilliant Kids… and seek to nurture Brilliant Minds.
We’d love for you to become part of our Brilliant Family!
Dionne Meyers is the founder of Brilliant Minds. Born and raised in beautiful St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, Dionne has spent her life in service to her community. She worked as a criminal prosecutor in the Virgin Islands for six years and as a Family Law Attorney in Florida since 2007. She is a member of the VI Bar, Florida Bar and North Carolina Bar.
Brilliant Minds is a fulfillment of Dionne’s dream of helping young people realize their purpose and potential. She is passionate about the success of all of her Brilliant Kids, a phrase she coined to describe her much loved students. She has worked with children for the past 20 years: as a volunteer tutor in after-school programs in Durham, North Carolina, a Moot Court coach for high school students in St. Thomas, a substitute professor at the University of the Virgin Islands, and has provided training with the Florida Bar.
Dionne has completed several courses with the Early Learning Coalition on early childhood issues that include prep for ages 0 to 3 and is CPR certified for infants, children and adults. She is currently completing courses for her Director’s credentials with the Department of Children & Families.
Dionne is the mother of one, Isaiah, who is currently a sixth grader. She enjoys reading, dancing, traveling, and running.
Our “Brilliant Instructors” are certified teaching professionals (currently teaching and retired) and graduate students who represent diverse educational backgrounds from reputable schools and universities. They represent the very best in their field.
Before being selected as a Brilliant Minds instructor, they each completed a comprehensive interview, training, orientation and verification of credentials, including clearance of the Level II Criminal Background Check as required by the Leon County School Board and Jessica Lunsford Act.
In our continued effort to maintain high quality service and stay current with changing learning curricula, each of our instructors is regularly evaluated and receive periodic, ongoing professional development.
